About Us

Portsmouth Pride exists to support the LGBTQ+ community in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.

We create safe spaces for the community to come together through our series of year-round events, and we celebrate the diversity of our amazing city and residents at our annual, free Main Day event

We are inclusive of all and advocate for further protection of the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people not only in Portsmouth, but across the UK and around the world.

We work with local community action groups, schools & colleges, universities, sports clubs, local businesses, political representatives, civil bodies and individuals, as well as regional and national charities focused on progressing and protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ people.

We are leading members of the UK Pride Organisers' Network (UKPON) and as volunteers, we all work to share resources and expertise with other members across the country.

Portsmouth Pride's year-round work brings together a community that can often feel isolated and experience difficulty in accessing social activities.

UNESCO research found that LGBT people experience discrimination and exclusion in everyday life, and Stonewall research found that only half of LGBTQ+ people feel able to be open about their sexual orientation or gender identity with everyone.

Portsmouth Pride creates environments for inclusion and free expression throughout the year, and we know from experience that these activities are sometimes the only opportunities for community members to feel safe, included and truly themselves.

Since 1972, people in the UK have been attending Pride events to come together with the wider LGBTQ+ community and to feel free to be their authentic selves and this has evolved over time to include much more than a protest march.

Portsmouth Pride hosts a completely free-to-attend one-day Pride event for the people of Portsmouth and surrounding areas: an event bringing together a community-led parade, two stages, over 50 stalls, a family funfair and much more.

The event brings together the LGBTQ+ community as well as inviting allies and local residents to connect with us, share our space and enjoy the event. Click here for details of our 2024 Pride main day event on 6th July.
